Hello everyone been looking forward to this forum. Bought a 4WD SMX in burnt orange (easy to spot in a car park) about a month ago. Love the space in the car not so keen on the fuel consumption, I think I can improve that. Over all a brilliant car. Spotted a black SMX in Shenley anybodies.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I reckon the fuel issue is the reason people buy them and then shortly give them up. Shame they only came as auto. I will be working on that though hopefully.
Some people report bad fuel consumption when swapping to cone filters. Std air box for economy apparently.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. Sounds like a nice smx, RH2 model i believe. Have you got any pictures. As for fuel economy etc, mines never been amazing but I've found a LOT of it is just down to driving style. I had a bit of a heavy right foot and found myself alwayd at the fuel station but since changing my driving style, i've noticed a huge difference in mPG. I have a cone air filter as well and havn'e noticed any difference in MPG when that went on

Possibly just people liking the noise too much and keeping their foot down unnecessarily?

thank you all for the welcome I am sure this forum is going to be very interesting and informative. Hello Sweeney your cone filter is of great interest. From pictures I have seen in this forum I see that the cone filter by design will reduce manifold vacum there for increase cylinder pressure through the rev range which should increase performance or better mpg with a lighter right foot. However the filter is sucking from the engine bay which is warmed by the radiant heat from the engine and convected heat from the radiator this expands the air and reduces the charge to the engine so your gains are lost. Encase the filter and lead a large pipe to it from the front of the car away from the radiator. cool air dense charge. Also the original air box is designed to prevent choking of the inlet manifold as the inlet valve shuts due to oscillations of the inlet air.
